I treat adult patients in individual treatment. I provide clinical supervision to mental health professionals in various fields.
I am a generalist and help patients with many types of issues. At some level, I don’t subscribe to the idea of “specialization,” because a therapist must be skilled enough, nimble enough, and open-minded enough, to understand the many unique problems and life experiences people bring to treatment. And they must perceive subtle differences that can exist between people, even those who share the same type of problem.
That said, I do have extensive experience in the treatment of trauma, depression and anxiety. I also have specialized training in sexuality and gender, and I work with many people in the LGBTQIA+ community. I have done research in this area. I’ve also done research on patients who have lost former therapists to illness or death, or who have experienced difficult ruptures in previous treatments. Finally, I believe that therapists must be sensitive to social issues, and must bring into treatment an understanding of the suffering and trauma caused by marginalization. I have read broadly in the fields of feminist, queer, anti-racist and post-colonial critical theory and history.
